High quality Control Posts - Animal transport certification
The project “Renovation and promoting of High Quality Control Posts in the European Union”, funded by DG SANCO of the European Commission, is closed. A final conference has been organized on the 30th of May in Dublin to present and discuss the results of this project.
The conference was held at Bewleys Hotel Ballsbridge, in Dublin, Ireland according to the following agenda.
During the event project partners presented different activities and relevant achievements as the rebuilding of control posts (CPs) - according to high quality criteria in the field of animal welfare, bio-security, environmental compatibility and work safety -, the scientific assessment of the animal welfare before and after renovation of control posts, the elaboration of an economic model for the evaluation of CPs economic returns and the implementation of a quality certification system for CPs. Moreover, within the project, an electronic booking system has been developed to facilitate programming of transporters' journeys. Specific e-learning tools and a handbook have been produced to raise the awareness about animal welfare and biosecurity and update operators about the latest news concerning legislation.
After each presentation related to project activities, the discussion was opened by representatives of main stakeholder organisations. In particular representatives of farmers (COPA-COGECA), traders and transporters (UEBCV), animal welfare organisations (Eurogroup for Animals), veterinarians (FVE), National Competent Authorities of France, Germany, Poland, Italy and Spain, international (IRU) and national transporters (COMOS, ASTRAN, Veetrans, BDT) were involved in this final event.
Together with these representatives, other stakeholders were invited to participate in the conference.
